Signed M Ubaldi (Mario Carmelo Ubaldi, American, 1912-1993)
Two of Mr Ubaldi’s sculptures are currently held by the Smithsonian as examples of WPA artwork. He studied art in Rome. In the late 1930s, he worked for the Illinois WPA sculpture program. In the 1940’s, he taught clay modeling at the Art Institute of Chicago and exhibited nationally. While raising his family, he worked as a color manager at General Electric for 28 years and continued his work as an award winning sculptor and designer in the Louisville, KY area up until his death in 1993.
Few small chips around the corner/edges of the base and elsewhere showing white under the copper tone paint/glaze. It could be any number of mediums, but most likely plaster. See photos for exact item.
